Tooth Extractions in Charlotte, NC

Our goal is always to save teeth! However, there are times when too much tooth structure is gone to restore and tooth extractions are necessary. If you’re facing severe tooth decay, advanced gum disease, or substantial tooth damage, a tooth extraction is necessary to stop the source of infection or prevent future infection. At QC South Dentistry, Dr. Rebecca Bradley smoothly and efficiently performs this general dentistry procedure to benefit your health.

Dental Extractions Defined

Simply put, dental extractions remove teeth from their jawbone sockets. They may be necessary for various reasons. They could be needed in cases where a tooth is too damaged or decayed to be repaired or severe gum disease. Even though many are intimidated by the idea of pulling a tooth, they’re often relatively safe and routine when carried out by a skilled and compassionate dental professional.

Advantages of Tooth Extractions

Contrary to popular belief, strategic dental extractions alleviate pain and discomfort and prevent infection from spreading systemically. Occasionally, tooth extractions allow for the proper alignment of teeth and create space for necessary orthodontic or prosthetic treatments. Our South Charlotte dentist can help you achieve a healthy smile and is committed to making the tooth removal as gentle and comfortable as possible.

Careful Tooth Removal

Are you curious about dental extractions and how they are performed? Understanding how extractions are performed can ease anxiety for some. Generally, all types of tooth extractions involve numbing the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic. If you are especially anxious, Dr. Bradley might suggest sedation dentistry.

The two types of dental extractions are:

  • Simple extractions are a straightforward and commonly performed dental procedure. First, Dr. Bradley may need to make small incisions in the gum tissue to access the tooth fully. Then, she’ll remove it entirely with dental tools.

  • Surgical extractions are necessary when the tooth does not remove in its entirety and needs the use of a dental handpiece to make it easier by separating the tooth/roots or removing minimal bone. If necessary, Dr. Bradley will suture the wound to help it heal faster. This can sound intimidating, but with Dr. Bradley’s gentle nature, she will comfort you through the appointment and treat you with care.

A Dental Extraction Could Dramatically Improve Well-being

Do you know that you need a tooth removed? If so, know that tooth removal can help relieve pain, improve oral health, and provide additional benefits, such as ease of eating or speaking. Despite the potential risks of tooth extraction, it is often considered one of the most essential dental treatments available.
