Children’s Dentistry

Children's Dentist Charlotte

As a mother of two girls herself, Dr. Rebecca Bradley first-hand understands the importance of keeping kids healthy and happy. As parents, our priority is ensuring that our child’s health and well-being are taken care of. While often overlooked, dental care is especially important for keeping children healthy into adulthood. From monitoring the growth and development of primary and permanent teeth to actively taking steps to prevent cavities, excellent and consistent children’s dental care can make all the difference in helping your little one develop solid and healthy teeth throughout life.

Children's Dentistry Defined

Did you know that tooth decay is the most widespread chronic childhood illness? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that over half of children ages 6 to 8 years have had a cavity in their baby teeth, and this prevalence only increases with age. Because cavities can have profound physical, psychological, and social implications on kids, children’s dentistry focuses heavily on cavity prevention as well as teaching kids how to care for their smiles for life.

Finding the proper dental care for your family can feel overwhelming and stressful, especially when it comes to picking a provider who will treat your children with respect and provide them with the best possible care. At QC South Dentistry, Dr. Bradley prioritizes making sure every member of your family feels comfortable and secure in our South Charlotte family dental office. We look forward to treating patients of all ages and having our office serve as a hub for excellent dental health for the entire family.

Children's Dental Cleanings & Exams

In accordance with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry‘s (AAPD) guidelines, we recommend that children have their first dental cleaning and exam scheduled around their first birthday or 6 months after their first tooth emerges (whichever happens first). This early start sets the foundation for a lifetime of good oral care habits and allows our team to detect any potential dental issues at an early stage. By emphasizing the significance of these routine dental visits, we aim to ensure the overall dental well-being of children and promote their long-term oral health.

Anti-Cavity Treatment

Even individuals with impeccable and diligent oral hygiene habits may struggle to effectively clean certain areas of the mouth, which are especially vulnerable to cavities—which is where dental sealants and fluoride treatment play a crucial role in anti-cavity protection.
  • Dental sealants are a protective coating that is applied to the teeth, making deep grooves where bacteria like to sit more shallow. With their ability to protect those hard-to-clean spots, dental sealants provide an added layer of defense against tooth decay.
  • Fluoride treatment is a fantastic preventative measure that should not be overlooked. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral renowned for its cavity-fighting properties. When applied topically to the teeth, fluoride can help to strengthen tooth enamel and make it more resistant to decay.

Young children, in particular, benefit greatly from dental sealants and fluoride treatment because they are still developing their adult teeth and often aren’t as skilled or motivated to brush and floss. By incorporating anti-cavity treatments into a child’s dental routine, parents can feel confident that they are doing their best to keep their child’s teeth healthy and strong for years to come.

Simple Restorative Treatment

While it’s always better to prevent tooth decay, QC South Dentistry can provide judgment-free, simple restorative dentistry to children. Depending on the child’s age, comfort in the chair, and treatment needs, a referral to a Pediatric dentist may be provided.
